All teachers and teaching assistants have had the following training in the last academic year:

  • Update on the SEND Code of Practice
  • Update on disability awareness for new staff
  • Dyslexia and autism


The following have the identified enhanced and specialist training:

  • 1 x Teaching Assistant in each class from Year 1- Year 6 is trained in the use of Comic Strip Conversations (designed to deal with behaviour issues)
  • 2 x Teaching Assistants are Chill Skills leaders
  • 2 x Teaching Assistants are trained to support children who are anxious or have witnessed domestic violence
  • 2 x Teaching Assistants have extensive autism training 
  • All Teaching Assistants in Year 1 – 6 have extensive training on 1-1 or 1-2 reading with children
  • SENDCo and SEN Teaching Assistant have been trained in supporting families with grief
  • All Teaching Assistants - recognising anxiety in children

In addition, the SENDCo regularly observes and offers feedback throughout the school to support the progress of children with SEND. 


Where a training need is identified beyond this we will find a provider who is able to deliver it.  Training providers we can approach are:

  • Autism and Speech, Language & Communication Outreach Service
  • Educational Psychology Service
  • Speech and Language Therapy Service
  • Outreach support from more specialized schools such as Pathfields and Lampards
  • Visual & Hearing Impaired Advisory teachers
  • SEN Information Communication & Technology (ICT) Advisory Teacher
  • Advisory Teacher for Physical Difficulties
  • School Nurse
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy       


Any cost of training is covered by the SEN budget in school.
