At East-the-Water School 97% of pupils passed the phonics screening in Year 1 compared to the Devon average of 82%. Our excellent teaching of early reading ensures all children become fluent readers.

Top 7% of students nationally
While the government have not published progress measures this year, data from Fisher Family Trust shows that we would be in the top 7% of schools nationally for pupils achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and maths.
Reading, Writing and Maths Combined
69% of pupils achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and maths compared to 57% across Devon. 5% of pupils achieved a higher standard in reading, writing and maths.
Reading
The average scaled score for reading was 104.2. While progress measures were not published by the government, Fischer Family Trust data shows that pupils made significantly more progress than national.
Maths
