Our Mission Statement
At our excellent school we celebrate your child. We support them to care for others while valuing themselves. Here your child will develop their strengths, know their next steps in learning and achieve their goals.
We teach all children to keep safe, be independent, make decisions and help each child to recognise the impact of their choice on others. We never lose sight of the knowledge and skills your child needs if they are to grow up to being a unique, reliable and thriving adult within an ever widening community.

Our School Aims
Welcome to East-the-Water Primary School and Foundation Stage Unit. Here at East-the-Water our aims are to:
- Provide a happy, caring, learning environment where every child and adult is respected and valued.
- Provide a broad and balanced curriculum that enables our children’s social, emotional, creative and intellectual skills to develop and flourish.
- Provide a start to our children’s education that will provide the basis for future learning.
- Encourage our children to be adaptable and confident in an ever widening world.
We promote independence and developing social and life skills that will prepare children for the future
When you enter our school you will notice confident, friendly and polite children who are always walking around with a smile on their face. We promote independence and developing social skills and life skills that will prepare children for the future.
You will also notice the outstanding behaviour and attitude to their learning. As we’ve always believed that in order for a school to be successful, it must be happy, we have nurtured a strong sense of partnership between the school and the family, and this lies at the heart of the children’s happiness and success. East-the-Water is a fun and exciting place to be.

At East-the-Water School you will see a rich and diverse skills based curriculum
We believe in giving children the opportunities to investigate, problem solve and ask their own questions. Outdoor learning is a huge part of our school with children regularly using our wonderful school garden and forest area to investigate and problem solve in maths, science and design and technology or provide stimulus in art and literacy.
We also have outstanding PE provision with a plethora of clubs and are one of the few primary schools nationally to own their own class set of bikes (we are proud to be the reigning Devon Cyclocross champions!). We have outstanding gymnastics provision and are one of the first schools nationally to introduce Handball into the curriculum.
Due to the popularity and excellent reputation of the school we have doubled in size to over 450 children
Our Foundation Stage Unit, Little Skippers, is widely recognised as one of the best early years environments in North Devon and we work closely with nationally recognised centres of excellence to ensure we offer the best possible start for your child. In recognition of this Little Skippers was awarded outstanding (Ofsted 2013).
Every child should have the best possible start in life and the support they need to fulfil their potential. A secure and happy childhood is important in its own right and provides the foundation for all children to independently explore and develop within stimulating experiences and healthy relationships.
