Keeping our school environment safe, healthy and eco friendly
Our School Council actively looks for ways to protect our local area. They work closely with teachers to save energy and reduce waste.
This year, our school council decided that their main focus should be the environment; it’s a high priority in our community and it’s necessary to look after our school. We decided to use our artistic flair and make posters to put around the school that would encourage students and teachers to look after our surroundings. After discussions about our concerns regarding the price of living, the children decided to elect ‘energy monitors’ whose role is to enforce the following energy saving strategies:
- Turn off the lights when we leave the room
- Make sure our interactive whiteboards aren’t left on when not in use
- Close doors and windows to reduce heat loss
- Make sure teachers aren’t leaving their computers on unnecessarily
- Make sure radiators aren’t left on when the rooms are already warm
All of these actions help reduce our schools running cost! The School Council’s aim is to discuss new ways to represent our students’ ideas and make a lasting impact on our local environment.
Litter
We have asked pupils to complete surveys to make us more aware of the reasons for playground litter. We regularly discuss this concern in assemblies ensuring our pupils feel responsible for both litter and caring for our school environment.
